I'm
I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology, Guidance and Counselling at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, with academic training and professional experience in educational psychology, measurement and evaluation, as well as clinical and mental health counselling. My work is firmly grounded in psychometrics and assessment, with particular attention to how valid and reliable measurement practices can inform educational and psychosocial decision-making across diverse learner populations.
My research centres on the design, development, and validation of assessment instruments for specific learning difficulties, including dyscalculia, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. This work draws on robust quantitative measurement theory alongside applied counselling perspectives, enabling a more holistic understanding of learners’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioural profiles. I am especially interested in advancing equitable and context-responsive assessment systems that are sensitive to cultural, linguistic, and educational variability. In addition, my scholarly work includes the evaluation of educational programmes, with a focus on evidence-based approaches to improving learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness.
I am a Fellow of the African Dyslexia Organization, where I actively advocate for the rights, inclusion, and educational support of persons with dyslexia. I am also a member of professional associations relevant to educational research, assessment, scientific research, and counselling practice, including the Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluators of Nigeria (ASSEREN), Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), and the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON). These affiliations support my ongoing engagement with interdisciplinary research, professional development, and policy-relevant practice.
In recent years, my research has expanded to explore the responsible integration of data-informed approaches and artificial intelligence in educational assessment, with the aim of enhancing diagnostic accuracy, instructional support, and learner wellbeing. More recently, my scholarly interests have extended into clinical and mental health domains, with a particular focus on postpartum depression (PPD), childbirth-related post-traumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD), childhood truama and the application of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) within assessment-informed intervention frameworks. Across my teaching, research, supervision, and counselling-related engagements, I am committed to translating rigorous theory into practical, scalable tools that support learners, educators, and practitioners in both educational and clinical settings. My broader objective is to contribute to evidence-based assessment and intervention practices that strengthen inclusive education and mental health support systems in local and international contexts.
